MIAMI SHORES | Priests at St. Rose of Lima in Miami Shores blessed pets Sept. 30 in anticipation of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, Oct. 4. About 30 dogs and their owners showed up for the blessing.
Other parishes are doing or planning to do the same. Here are some places where pets will be blessed this year.
- Thursday, Oct 4, from 7:30 to 8 p.m. at the Church of the Little Flower, 2711 Indian Mound Trail, Coral Gables. A brief prayer service will be followed by the blessing of each individual pet, and the presentation of a Saint Francis medal to each family in attendance. All are welcome. - Thursday, Oct. 4, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the school courtyard of St. Agnes, 100 Harbor Drive, Key Biscayne. For information call 305-361-2351.
- Thursday, Oct 4, from 6 to 6:45 p.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes' outdoor altar, 11291 S.W. 142 Ave., Miami. For information call 305-386-4121.
In addition, St. Rose of Lima also will be hosting a Transitus of St. Francis prayer service, commemorating his passing from earthly to eternal life.
