Pace High goes 'Hora Loca' for first alumni prom

MIAMI GARDENS | Giant LED-decorated robots and feather-decked performers made for flashy festivities at the first-ever Alumni Prom of Monsignor Edward Pace High School.

The June 2 celebration drew 200 attendees arrived for a Hollywood-themed evening. Purpose was to encourage a sense of alumni community dating back to the school’s first graduating class of 1964.

Under the glow of red and amber lights, guests were treated to food, cocktails and dancing, plus cafecitos made by Pace’s Spanish teacher Celita Cabrera. A bongo player beat out a dance rhythm.

The celebration then hit an “Hora Loca” note, resembling a Brazilian carnival, as partiers entered in feather headdresses and glittery costumes, along with giant robots decorated with LEDs from Viva Entertainment and DJ’s Party Planners and Beyond. sprayed CO2 fog. Guests posed for pictures in a photo booth with props.

During the evening, Principal Ana Garcia announced that Pace's baseball team had won the state championship only hours prior.
