MHOC students 'prowl' for parish center

PARKLAND | Members of Mary Help of Christians Church and School took part in their first walk-a-thon to benefit the student parish center fund.

Called the Panther Prowl, the event brought more than 500 students, 75 parent volunteers and 100 faculty and staff to the school campus Oct. 20. Each homeroom class walked for 45 minutes on the campus track, which runs an eighth of a mile.

Besides the walkathon, students were treated to cotton candy, popsicles, water balloon games and lunch. They saw attended a K-9 demonstration by the Margate Police Department. They also got a visit from Stanley C. Panther, the mascot of the Florida Panthers ice hockey team.

Funds raised will support the Student Parish Center Building Fund, along with updates for school technology enhancements. Results were still being tallied, but as of this week they topped $45,000.
