MIAMI GARDENS | Five students at Msgr. Edward Pace High School have received the second annual Jorge Luis Lopez Esq. Family Foundation Scholarship.
Lopez is a class of 1979 alumnus, attorney and philanthropist. He and his wife, Marile, were present for the awards Mass and reception at the Dante Navarro Religious Education Center and Chapel on the Pace High campus.
This year’s recipients are: seniors Leticia Saladrigas and Joshua Toledo; junior David Anthony Barbier, Jr.; sophomore Gaetan Jeudy; and freshman Isabella Cardoso. Each received $2,000 toward tuition assistance.
Criteria for the scholarship includes a 3.0 GPA or higher, sport team involvement and a written essay focused on the importance of Catholic education and why they deserved to be awarded the scholarship.
Over 40 students applied and all of them were invited to attend the Mass and breakfast reception where they had the opportunity to speak with Jorge Luis and Marile Lopez about their individual submissions. They also received words of encouragement for future participation.
The application process for Pace students to apply for the 2018 Jorge Luis Lopez Esq. Family Foundation Scholarship will begin in early spring. Recipients are notified during the summer.
