HOLLYWOOD | Right before Thanksgiving, Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory’s Interact Club sponsored its 10th annual Adopt-A-Family Harvest Drive, collecting enough food to feed over 120 families. In addition, over 30 families received Publix gift cards so that they can purchase much-needed food items to make Thanksgiving meals.
The drive benefits local families selected by the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Little Flower Parish in Hollywood.
The Interact Club reached out to the community and requested traditional Thanksgiving food and basic pantry items. They also accepted monetary donations to purchase Publix gift cards.
“More so now than ever, students are stepping up to serve their communities,” said Blanca Suarez, moderator of the Interact Club. She noted that “14.3 percent of the Broward County population is food insecure with families not knowing where they will get their next meal. Our kids and their families are also realizing that hunger is a reality in every town, not only in our most challenged communities, with 19.4 percent of children in South Florida at risk for hunger.”
