CORAL GABLES | St. Theresa School earned the top prize at the XLII Columbus Scholastic Olympics: Division II Champions.

Miami's original scholastic competition for Catholic school eighth graders went virtual this year, but the tradition of friendly rivalry and fierce academic competition continued.

As part of St. Theresa's strong showing at the Olympics, 13 students earned gold medals while another 6 earned silver and 11 earned bronze medals in religion, science, math, drama, history, general skills and several other areas.

This is the third year in a row St. Theresa wins in its division, after an earlier streak that ran from 2012 to 2015.

Eighth grade gold medalist Sofia Rodriguez, on the general skills team, said, "Our accomplishment was obtained through trust and collaboration. We worked together so well that, by the end of the test, we knew we had given it our best. I am proud of my teammates and myself and know this experience is one that I will always remember."

"The St. Theresa family is so proud of the focus and dedication that each of these students has shown, not just at St. Theresa but throughout the Archdiocese of Miami schools. We cherish this friendly competition and hope to keep St. Theresa's streak going,"  said Carmelite Sister Rosalie Nagy, St. Theresa's principal.
