Archdiocesan news briefs for July 2018

Thank your priest at 60th gala

Photographer:

How many times have you told all the clergy in your life how much they mean to you? Can you think of a priest, or group of priests, who have been a constant in your life? You can pay tribute during the gala dinner for the archdiocese’s 60th anniversary — whose theme is A White Gala to Honor the White Collar — by purchasing a 60th anniversary tribute ad to celebrate or commemorate all the priests who have made a difference in your life. These digital ads will be displayed on large screens and iPads throughout the dinner at Marlins Stadium. They also will be posted online in the Development Office’s Tribute Ad Gallery and sent to clergy and sponsors post-gala as a digital flipbook. To find out more and purchase a tribute ad, go to www.adomdevelopment.org/tributeads or call Grace Veloz at 305-762-1064.

Pro bono attorneys needed for immigrant children

Catholic Legal Services is appealing for pro bono attorneys to help represent nearly 5,000 children in the Miami area with pending deportation cases in Immigration Court.

“Separations of immigrant families occur every day in our neighborhoods, in our parishes, throughout our community,” said Randolph McGrorty, CEO of Catholic Legal Services. Currently, he noted, “5,000 children [are] facing a complex court hearing without an attorney, without parents or other responsible adults at their side. I appeal to the immigration attorneys in South Florida to come forward to assist pro bono in defending these children in court. The youngest child without legal representation is four years old.”

Catholic Legal Services is working closely with its partners at Americans for Immigrant Justice, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, others in the legal community, immigrant advocates and faith community to create an effective South Florida response to this crisis.
