Share the Journey

Week of prayer and action- Oct. 7-13

Pope Francis launched a global campaign in support of immigrants and refugees on September 27, 2017. The Share the Journey global migration campaign is sponsored internationally by Caritas Internationalis and in the U.S. by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)/Migration and Refugee Services, Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

Archbishop Thomas Wenski joins Pope Francis and all men and women of good will by reaching out in solidarity and welcome to immigrants and refugees around the world, and invites Catholics and faithful to “Share the Journey.” A list of resources is provided below to learn more about this campaign or to find out how you can participate.

Resources:

Catholic Legal Services, Archdiocese of Miami, Inc. (“CLS”) will offer Know Your Rights Presentations throughout the Archdiocese for those seeking to understand the legal rights and risks of our immigration system. Trained attorneys will present a brief overview of immigration law and answer questions regarding immigration issues. Parishes, schools and other Archdiocesan institutions are invited to host a Know Your Rights presentation during the Week of Prayer and Action, Oct 7-13. However, attorneys will be available throughout the two-year campaign for presentations. As a host, CLS asks that adequate space be provided, some hospitality offered, as well as ensuring turnout among those who would benefit from this important information. The presentation, as well as a question and answer session, should take approximately two hours. Participants will be directed to a subsequent legal clinic, if necessary, where they will receive a free one-on-one consultation with a trained attorney or an immigration specialist.

Information for Clergy, Parish or School E-Newsletters:

We hope that every parish and school in our diocese will be inspired to show our love for our brothers and sisters who have fled their homes seeking safety and hope for the future around the world and here in the U.S. We can do this by taking part in a Week of Prayer and Action, Oct 7-13. As you reflect on how your community can love your neighbor by being a part of the Share the Journey campaign, please consider:

At Masses on October 7/8:

  • Praying for migrants in the general intercessions and prayerfully mention the campaign in the homily, pulpit and bulletin announcements at Masses Oct 7-8.
  • Offering the campaign prayer aloud as a community and ask people to commit to one way they can Share the Journey by loving our refugee and immigrant neighbors.

During the Week Ending 10/14:

  •  Joining the Holy Father, bishops across the U.S. and around the world, and countless others in using social media to express your support for migrants and refugees.
  •  Incorporating prayer for those who have fled their homes at the beginning of all meetings, classes, school events, etc.
  •  Using lesson plans, videos, stories, simulations, prayer pilgrimages, and other resources to explain why people leave their home countries, to highlight common myths about the issue, and to raise awareness about what the Church teaches.
  •  Providing opportunities for people to get to know immigrants and refugees or to participate in other ways locally. Contact [insert name and contact info of local Catholic Charities or other agency that serves immigrants and refugees].

Catholic Leaders- ideas for the Week of Prayer and Action
