MIAMI | The second annual archdiocesan Golden Knight Scholar Athlete Award has been presented to Ashley Novello of St. David School in Broward County and Karina Bermudez of Blessed Trinity School in Miami-Dade County."This is evidence that the mission of Catholic education is alive and well in the Archdiocese of Miami," said Kim Pryzbylski, Ph.D., superintendent of schools for the archdiocese. "To say that I was very impressed would be an understatement indeed."
"The portfolios confirmed academic excellence in multiple categories and demonstrated that students are committed to serving the community as they live out the corporal and spiritual works of mercy," Pryzbylski continued.
"My family and my teachers had a huge influence on me. They taught me to always follow my dreams while staying committed to God and academics," said Karina. "I thought that by enrolling in my service project I would help other people, but instead I found that they actually helped me."
“Karina is a wonderful role model and mentor. I am proud of her achievements in academics, athletics and service,” said Maria Teresa Perez, principal at Blessed Trinity. “I am impressed at the manner in which she brings Christ into all her endeavors. She is a true scholar service athlete!
"We are very proud of Ashley. She has boundless energy combined with perseverance, knowledge, and the spirit to serve others. She is a wonderful example of Catholic education in action," said Jane Broder, principal of St. David School in Davie.
