Curley Notre Dame performers Clara Bent as Shug, Gabriela Garcia-Ugalde as Millie, Ashley Rolle as Mabel, Jennifer Lamy as George, and Camila Murphy as Frieda enjoy some time backstage just minutes before going onstage.
MIAMI — On Friday, July 16, the auditorium at
Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School was transformed into a 1920s-style "speak-easy" as young performers from the school's Summer Knights Performing Arts Camp sang, danced, and performed a live music typical of this exciting period in entertainment history.
Based on an original script, the musical was produced by Robin Alexander of Stage Left Productions along with R. Lee Johanson, Curley Notre Dame's music director, and Stephan Dominique, assistant director.
Throughout the evening, students performed selections from popular musicals such as "Grand Hotel" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie". During the intermission, Curley Notre Dame's House Band played for the guests who were encouraged to mingle, dance, and refresh their drinks.
The Summer Knights Performing Arts Camp offers students in sixth to ninth grades an opportunity to develop their skills both on stage and behind the scenes including set design and construction, lighting, and sound, as well as further develop instrumental skills.
