SOUTHWEST RANCHES – The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks baseball team celebrated its state championship at a school wide pep rally June 8 and received a key to the town of Southwest Ranches.

“We are incredibly proud of our baseball team,” said Dr. Richard Perhla, principal of Archbishop McCarthy High School. “To top it off, this is the very first time the Town of Southwest Ranches has presented [a key] to anyone.”

Southwest Ranches Mayor Jeff Nelson, council members Doug McKay and Freddie Fisikelli, and town administrator Charlie Lynn presented Dr. Perhla with a key to the town and a plaque congratulating the school for its 2010 4A state championship victory. It is the school’s first ever state championship in any sport.
