Emmaus Retreat for Men

Friday, Apr 28, 2017 at 6:00 PM - English

Why Emmaus? Everyone needs to take time away from the hustle of today's world. This is your opportunity to set some time apart for yourself, to reflect, to share, and learn about Jesus.

What is Emmaus? It is a Christian Retreat put on by the men of this Parish, where you will spend the weekend with newfound friends in the presence of our Lord. Emmaus gets its name from the story in Luke 24: 13-35, in which Luke tells the story of the first Easter afternoon when the risen Christ appeared to two disciples who were walking together along the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus.

Like the majority of persons who are blinded by their preoccupation with their own immediate problems, these two disciples' sadness and hopelessness seemed to prevent them from seeing God's redemptive purpose in the things that happened. And yet, the risen Christ "came near and went with them", opening the disciples' eyes to His presence and lighting the fire of God's love in their hearts.

The Emmaus movement is ecumenical. We invite and involve Christians of all denominations. Emmaus also seeks to foster Christian unity and to reinforce the whole Christian community. This is one of the great strengths and joys of the Emmaus movement.

What happens during the weekend? During the weekend you will hear talks given by different men from the Parish ... no lectures or assignments. The walk to Emmaus offers retreatants an opportunity to rediscover Christ's presence in their lives, to gain a fresh understanding of God's grace, and from friendships that foster faith and support spiritual maturity.

You will need the following items for the retreat:

  • Towel
  • Pillow
  • Toiletry
  • Casual, comfortable clothing

Please leave all electronic devices (pagers, cellular phones, CD players, computers, etc) at home. You will want to fully disconnect and RETREAT from the everyday world.

The Emmaus team rejoices that you will be joining us for the weekend of reflection and renewal. Meals and snacks will be served from Friday through Sunday. You need to be dropped off by 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church; the retreat will conclude with the 5 p.m. Mass on Sunday.

Everyone needs to take a break from the "hustle and bustle" of today's world.  Here is a perfect opportunity to gift yourself time to get away from the business of everyday life.  You will reflect on your spiritual life while experiencing God; you will truly deepen your relationship with the Lord.

The Emmaus retreat is an experience where men are ministered to by other men of the parish.  It is based on the Gospel of Luke 24:13-35.  In this scripture passage, two disciples meet the Lord on their way to the Village of Emmaus, after His resurrection, and recognize Him in the breaking of the bread.

If you are at least 25 years old, we encourage you to prayerfully set aside time for this retreat.  You will make new friends, and return to your home and workplace refreshed and renewed.

Don't let this opportunity to travel the road to Emmaus pass you by.

Everything is easier to handle when you have a good friend to assist you....JESUS..!  He is waiting for you and He is calling to you. Come join us...since it is a way of deepening your relationship with Christ in a way that you can't imagine!
