Newly named Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Miami, Father Enrique Delgado.

Today, as you know, Pope Francis has appointed me as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Miami. I never expected this, because I always see myself as a parish priest. A priest who relates to the people in their everyday lives. Who walks with them through life, accompanying them in their Christian journey.

I received this nomination with great humbleness and a great deal of gratitude to the Lord.

I give thanks to the Lord for the gift of my priesthood. It has allowed me to touch so many lives, over the past 21 years in different parishes of the Archdiocese of Miami.

As I begin this new ministry as an Auxiliary Bishop I want to pledge my total support to Archbishop Thomas Wenski in the pastoral work of the Archdiocese of Miami.

Being a new bishop, I respectfully ask the people of the Archdiocese of Miami to pray for me, that I would be guided always by the Holy Spirit in all the work that I do, to be transformed by the grace of God, so I can serve well, as an auxiliary bishop.

For the past two weeks, since I received the call from the Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency Archbishop Christophe Pierre, I have been praying that God will send me the Holy Spirit to be worthy of this new call for the order of bishop. I couldn't talk to anybody because I have been under an apostolic seal. I have not been able to share the emotions or the joy produced by this nomination, prayers of thanksgiving and to share with others the joy of this call.

When His Excellency Archbishop Christophe Pierre asked me if I accepted, I said yes, even though I was speechless trying to order my thoughts. It also comes to my mind a great gratitude to my parents, to my mother that is in heaven and to my father who is in his old age. They have always supported me in my priesthood. Over these past two weeks, I have had time to pray and to reflect on these 21 years of priesthood, thoughts of my ministry and how God has been with me all this time guiding me in my priesthood. I always have been inspired by St. Paul in his letter to the Philippians 4:13: "I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me."

So, I again ask the Lord to empower me to give me the strength to be a good bishop.

Let me now say this in Spanish.
