Bikers: Ride with Archbishop Wenski

Archbishop Thomas Wenski will continue his annual tradition by leading the 2017 Motorcycle Ride on Sunday, Jan. 29. The ride will start with an 8:30 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Doral and conclude at Peterson’s Harley Davidson North in North Miami. Bikers will be raising funds for St. Luke’s Center, a Catholic Charities rehabilitation facility for those with drug and alcohol addictions. Registration is $20 per bike and can be done in advance or the day of, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Guadalupe Church is located at 11691 N.W. 25 St., Doral. Bikers will depart at 10 a.m., after a blessing of bikes by the archbishop. Register online at www.adomdevelopment.org/2017ride or call 305-762-1054. 

Celebrate the Chinese New Year Jan. 29

The Chinese Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Miami invites Chinese Catholics, and all members of the community, to the annual Chinese New Year Mass and Ancestral Celebration, to be held Sunday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. at St. Jerome Church, Fort Lauderdale. There will be a lion dance, food, games and "Red Envelopes" for all the children. St. Jerome is located at 2533 S.W. Ninth Ave., Fort Lauderdale, 33315. St. Joseph marks 75th anniversary

St. Joseph Parish in Miami Beach is planning a series of activities to mark the 75th anniversary of its founding in 1942. All are invited to take part.

  • Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1942-2017: Solemn Vespers at 7:30 p.m., "In Thanksgiving for our Legacy." Presider: Archbishop Emeritus John C. Favalora. A reception will follow.
  • Sunday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m.: One outdoor Eucharistic celebration for the entire parish, "In Hope for Our Future Growth in the Lord." Presider: Archbishop Thomas Wenski
  • Saturday, March 18, at the Parish Hall: "In Preparation for St. Joseph's Feast day," a dinner concert featuring pianist Alberto Joya and singer Cristi Arias
  • Sunday, March 19, at the church: Classical concert by Maestro Alberto Joya at 4:30 p.m.
  • Monday, March 20, Solemnity of St Joseph: Distribution of St. Joseph's Bread and Solemn Vespers
  • March 24-April 6: Parish Pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Rome
  • April 22, 7 p.m.: St. Joseph Parish Spring Gala at the Seaview Hotel. 

Retreat offered for families of the disabled

Parents, grandparents and guardians of children and adults with disabilities are invited to take part in God’s Perfect Design, a retreat prepared especially for them. It will take place Feb. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church’sMercy Hall, 4497 W. First Ave., Hialeah. The retreat will be given by families of children with disabilities. Cost is $20 per person, with lunch and snacks provided. The day will conclude with Mass. For information, and to register, email: [email protected]

Celebrate your love at couples’ anniversary Mass

All couples married in the Catholic Church who are celebrating their Paper (1 year), Silver (25), Gold (50) or higher wedding anniversaries in 2017 are invited to attend a Mass at St. Mary Cathedral on Saturday, Feb. 11, to receive a blessing from Archbishop Thomas Wenski. Couples interested in having their picture taken with the archbishop should arrive by 4 p.m. Mass will start at 5:30 p.m. This event is sponsored annually by the archdiocesan Office of Marriage and Family Life. Couples who wish to participate must register through their parishes.  

Help fund scholarships for teen girls

The Miami Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women will host its 18th annual Scholarship Fund Luncheon and auction on Saturday, Feb. 25, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1100 S.E. 17 St., Fort Lauderdale. This year, the council will honor Archbishop Curley Notre Dame’s principal, Douglas Romanik, for “making a difference in Catholic education” in the archdiocese.

Tickets cost $50 per person, $500 for a table of 10. Price goes up to $55 after Feb. 15. Funds go toward scholarships for girls currently attending Catholic elementary schools who want to continue their education in a Catholic high school. Since the creation of the scholarship fund in 1996, the MACCW has awarded over $230,000 to 55 girls from archdiocesan elementary schools.
