The Best Buddies Friendship Walk, held March 16 in Miami this year, is the leading walk in the country supporting inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Funds raised at the walks help move Best Buddies’ mission forward by funding local programs. Last year, Chaminade-Madonna’s Best Buddies Club raised $3,055 for the cause, denoting a $7,264 increase from last year’s goal.

Chaminade-Madonna does not have individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities on campus, but the Best Buddies Club is heavily involved with its host site, The Quest Center. The club plans events with The Quest Center’s students to promote inclusion, provide opportunities for members to interact with individuals with intellectual and development disabilities, and raise awareness about Best Buddies within the community.

Lynzi Hammett, moderator of the Best Buddies Club, said, “I am so impressed with these three girls, as well as all of our devoted members. Our leaders have worked hard all year long and their dedication to the organization sets an example for all students to follow. Their passion inspires me every day to be more caring and understanding of all students, with and without disabilities. Their ability to band together to raise awareness for such an amazing cause is incredible.”

Hollywood-based Chaminade-Madonna, located next to Nativity Church, is one of 19 schools in the United States sponsored by the Marianist Province of the United States.
