MIAMI | Can you hear it?

“Jesus is knocking on your door,” Archbishop Thomas Wenski says in this year’s ABCD video. He’s “inviting you to love and serve those in need.”

Where are they? Pope Francis tells us:

“Charity is born of the call of a God who continues to knock on our doors, the door of all people, to invite us to love, to compassion, to service of one another. Jesus keeps knocking on our doors, the doors of our lives. He doesn’t do this by magic, with special effects, with flashing lights and fireworks. Jesus keeps knocking on our door in the faces of our brothers and sisters, in the faces of our neighbors, in the faces of those at our side.”

Last year, just over 30,000 South Florida Catholics heard the knock and opened the door. The result:

  • $4.5 million for social ministries and assistance to parishes and people in poor communities
  • $2.6 million for archdiocesan evangelization projects
  • $3.9 million for the formation of seminarians, clergy, religious and laity.

That adds up to more than money. It amounts to a great deal more than any one individual or parish can accomplish. It adds up to myriad good works that have a ripple effect in the community.

As Archbishop Wenski says in this year’s video: “ABCD opens the door for us all to unite as one community of believers to evangelize and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, bringing hope to those in need.”

The ABCD 2017 drive kicks off in all the parishes this weekend, Jan. 21-22. You can also pledge online at http://www.adomdevelopment.org/abcd.
