St. Kevin School pays tribute to late Marlins pitcher

Choir also sings national anthem at Sept. 28 game

MIAMI | St. Kevin School paid tribute to the late Miami Marlins pitcher José Fernández by observing Marlins Day Sept. 28. The entire faculty, staff, and student body dressed in Marlins attire to honor the 24-year-old ace, who died in a tragic boating accident Sept. 25.

That same evening, St. Kevin's Green and White ShamRockers Choir, led by Choir Director Stephanie Smith, performed the national anthem before the start of the Marlins game against the NY Mets.

Fifty-one students sang and over 200 members of the St. Kevin family were in attendance to show their support.

Congratulations to St. Kevin's Choir! I heard them sing the National Anthem at Marlins Park and was very impressed! They sang beautifully and as a parishioner and former parent of the school it made me very proud!

Kudos to St. Kevin Catholic School for honoring Jos Fernandez on the day our Marlins played after losing a teammate and friend as loved as he was. I'm grateful St Kevin School took the initiative to be there. My grand niece Sofia Quintana is a member of the choir.
