St. Hugh bids happy retirement to Father Federico Capdepón

COCONUT GROVE | After 33 years of priesthood in the Archdiocese of Miami, Father Federico Capdepón is retiring effective June 1. Parishioners at St. Hugh, where he has been pastor since 2013, honored him May 22 by dedicating the Father Federico Capdepón Plaza near the entrance to the church.

A message on the parish website also expressed their appreciation: “You brought new life to our parish. During your time here ministries have grown as you have made us aware of our duty as Christians to spread the love and mercy of God both locally and to other parts of the world…Thank you for sharing with us your talents and your love for the Lord, for challenging us to be the best we can be and for inspiring us to spend our lives in serving Christ in our brothers and sisters.”

Father Luis Largaespada has been appointed administrator of St. Hugh, effective July 1.

Father Capdepón was previously pastor of St. Martha in Miami Shores and St. Timothy in Miami, as well as founding director of the archdiocesan radio station, Radio Paz 830 AM.

Father Federico certainly deserves our appreciation for all he has done for St. Hugh. But there's a minor mistake in the text. He has been pastor here since 2012, not 2013.
