KISSIMMEE | Seminarians and deacons from the Archdiocese of Miami joined seminarians and deacons from around the state to compete once again in the annual Tough Mudder event, a 10-12 mile course with 20 obstacles held Nov. 8 and 9 in Central Florida.
The course is designed to be completed by a team, and 31 men from St. Vincent de Paul Seminary in Boynton Beach participated in the event, which also benefits the Wounded Warrior Project. Along with physical training, those from the seminary who participated “spiritually adopted” a wounded veteran and kept the veteran in prayer.
Msgr. David Toups, rector of the seminary who also participated in the team challenge, said the event builds fraternal bonds, encourages exercise, and breaks stereotypes of what seminarians are like. “It is an opportunity to tell the outside world that these are very real men and that they really enjoy life and all of its challenges,” Msgr. Toups said.
