KEY WEST | A reunion of sorts took place this summer in Key West, which certainly highlighted the contributions of religious women to building up the Church in South Florida. It also served as a great celebration of the Year of Consecrated Life.

Pictured above are Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary whose community served in the Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea for over 100 years. Their predecessors opened the Basilica School in 1868. Pictured with them are the Sisters of the Holy Spirit who came from Africa in 2008 to serve the school and parish.

The sisters are, from left: Sister Inviolata Kessy, provincial superior; Sister Mary Ellen Holohan, provincial superior; Sister Euphemia Kimario; Sister Marcia Frideger; Sister Marietha Kimaro; Sister Jane Hibbard; Sister Mary Silvestry Mushi; and Sister Kathleen Hilton. Standing behind them are the priests who serve the parish, from left, Father Adonis Gonzalez Betancourt, parochial vicar, and Father John Baker, rector; along with Robert Wright, school principal.
