Miami-Dade County to be consecrated

Archbishop Thomas Wenski and the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Carlos A. Giménez, invite the community to a special Mass during which the county will be consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Mass, organized by the Mission for the Love of God Worldwide, will take place Saturday, Aug. 29, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary Cathedral, 7525 N.W. Second Ave. Miami. During this historic event, Archbishop Wenski will place the county and its citizens into the loving hands of God. Similar consecration ceremonies have been held over the past few years for the cities of Key Biscayne, Miami, Hialeah and Fort Lauderdale. Holy Cross offering $20 school, sports physicals

To aid parents and caregivers during the hurried back-to-school rush, Holy Cross Urgent Care and Imaging Centers are offering $20 school and sports physicals seven days a week, including holidays. Appointments are not necessary at the clinics, which are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. St. Thomas U. adds degree track for catechists

The School of Theology and Ministry at St. Thomas University is offering a new graduate degree with a concentration in religious education. The concentration is a 36-credit-hour degree that adds specialty courses in religious education to the core Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry curriculum. This new concentration in religious education will be particularly useful for archdiocesan high school teachers as well as others involved in the ministry of religious education. How to do New Evangelization in your neighborhood

The Office of Evangelization and Parish Life will present a special workshop for anyone — clergy, parish staff, volunteers and parishioners — who wishes to learn more about effective practices for bringing about the work of the New Evangelization in local churches and communities. The workshop will take place Friday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Mark Parish in Southwest Ranches. The presenter will be Ennie Hickman of Adore Ministries. Cost is $20 and includes lunch. Hispanic Respect Life Conference
coming in November

The first archdiocesan Hispanic Respect Life Conference will take place Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church’s Mercy Hall, 4497 W. First Ave., Hialeah. This is an effort by the Respect Life Office to reach out in a massive way to South Florida’s large Hispanic population. It follows the first ever Hispanic Prolife Conference, held last year in the Diocese of Palm Beach, and precedes a similar conference that is being planned for the Diocese of St. Augustine. The conference theme is “La Familia a la Luz de Dios” (The Family in the Light of Christ). The goal is to present the beauty of the Gospel of Life and the tools to live it in the modern world.
