DAVIE | On the night before ordinations, 40 St. Bonaventure School Chorale members and their director, Ysomar Granandos, packed a chartered bus and headed for St. Mary Cathedral.

The chorale had been invited to sing at solemn vespers with the six soon-to-be ordained priests, and the children's excitement was palpable. But for Granados, the event was very personal: One of the new priests, Father Bryan Garcia, had been a member of her choir when she taught at Immaculate Conception School in Hialeah.

"To see him now on the eve of his ordination and have the opportunity for the chorale to sing at vespers was something far beyond words," she said.

After vespers, chorale members unfurled a banner sending their prayers to (at that point) Deacon Garcia and all the soon-to-be priests. The banner held a surprise: a picture of Garcia as a seventh grader in the handbell choir Granados directed at the time.
