SOUTHWEST RANCHES | The award winning Maverick Players, Troupe 6164, have done it again. The young thespians swept the International Thespian Society District Competition with their three-person, one-act play, "Riverside Drive," which they performed in January.

They will compete again in Tampa at the State International Thespian Competition.

The Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School students received the following awards:

  • Best Actor: Kevin Fitzpatrick
  • Best Supporting Actor: Nicholas Palazzo,
  • Best in Show: Alexandra Palazzo,
  • Best Stage Crew: Aimee Greco and
  • Best Stage Manager: Christine Fanchini.

"Riverside Drive" is a one-act play taken from playwright Woody Allen’s trilogy set in and around New York. Its sophisticated characters continually confound each other in ways only Woody Allen could imagine.

“Our Maverick Players work hard and their dedication to the craft evident in their award winning performances," said Cindy Keegan, artistic director for the Maverick Players.

Through the years The Maverick Players have received numerous awards at the state competition, including the coveted Critics’ Choice in 2014, the highest honor for a Florida ensemble.
