Miami…(March 30, 2015) Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski will celebrate the Trilingual Easter Vigil Mass with the Blessing of the New Fire outside St. Mary’s Cathedral and Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist) on Easter Vigil Saturday, April 04, starting at 8 p.m.
The Blessing of the Fire is the opening rite of the Easter Vigil. The fire is blessed outside St.Mary’s Cathedral and from the fire the Easter Candle is lit. The fire symbolizes Christ as the “Light of the World.”
The feast of Easter Vigil is considered the time to welcome 800 catechumens into the church by Baptism. After Baptism, the catechumens receive the Sacrament by Confirmation and then make their First Communion.
The Archdiocese of Miami celebrates Holy Week of 2015, March 29 – April 05; starting with Palm Sunday and ending with Easter Sunday.
St. Mary’s Cathedral is located at 7525 N.W. Second Avenue in Miami. The Trilingual Easter Vigil Mass will be in English, Spanish and Creole.
