Heart of Christmas: Archdiocese gives to families in need

Miamiā€¦(Dec. 16, 2014) One hundred families in need from across the Archdiocese of Miami will be receiving individual gift cards for either $250 or $500 from Archbishop Thomas Wenski’s Charity Fund, as part of this year’s Heart of Christmas program.

The Heart of Christmas is a program designed to assist families or individuals who are financially struggling, especially during the Christmas season. In the third year of the program, over 100 applications were submitted by pastors and program directors of organizations like Catholic Charities who work with the poor year-round. This year, due to the overwhelming need, Archbishop Wenski will be gifting an additional 50 gift cards to selected families and individuals.

Katie Blanco-Crocquet, chief development officer for the Archdiocese of Miami and president of the Development Corporation, said the distribution of the gift cards will begin soon. “The families have been selected for The Heart of Christmas. We will likely courier all of the gift cards to the organizations early [this] week so they can present them to the families before Christmas,” said Blanco-Crocquet.

Some families are available for interviews; please contact the department of communications at the Archdiocese of Miami, listed below.
