Christmas through children's eyes

View the winners of the 2014 Mission Kids Christmas Art Contest

MIAMI | Once again, student artwork graces the cover of the Christmas edition of The Florida Catholic.

Fourth-grader Gabriela Barrera from St. Kevin School in Miami was the overall winner of the second annual Mission Kids Christmas Art Contest, co-sponsored by the offices of Missions, Catechesis and Schools.

About 1,200 pieces of art were submitted by students from 27 schools and religious education programs throughout the archdiocese, making the task of choosing a winner very difficult for the judges. Among them was Father David Russell, a retired archdiocesan priest who is himself an artist, and representatives of the offices of Schools, Catechesis, Communications, and Evangelization and Parish Life.

A winner and runner-up were chosen for each grade level. The artwork of each one is reproduced here and was published in the newspaper.

In addition, all 1,200 entries will be sent to the Pontifical Missions Society in New York for participation in their annual contest. Their winners’ artwork will grace the society’s 2015 Christmas card and could be exhibited in 2015 at the National Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
