Blessing of the animals on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi

Miamiā€¦ (Sept. 30, 2015) Sunday, Oct. 4 marks the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. As a means of celebrating the patron saint of animals and the environment, all personal pets and treasured friends from the animal kingdom can be brought on leashes or in cages to receive a special blessing with holy water. Some churches will also be observing the feast day on Saturday, Oct. 3. The following Catholic churches in Miami Dade and Broward County will be hosting a blessing of the animals ceremony: 

On Saturday, Oct. 3: 

  • St. Martha Church, located at 9221 Biscayne Blvd., Miami Shores, FL 33138. The bilingual blessing will take place at the church parish hall at 10 a.m. For more information call: 305-751-0005.
  • Little Flower Church (Coral Gables), 2711 Indian Mound Trail, Coral Gables, FL 33134. The bilingual ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will take place at the church backyard.
  • Our Lady of Divine Providence Church, 10205 W. Flagler St., Miami, FL 33174. The ceremony will be celebrated in Spanish in the church plaza, and will begin at 9:30 a.m. For more information contact: 305-551-8113 or visit http://www.oldpmiami.org

On Sunday, Oct. 4:

  • Our Lady of Lourdes Church, located at 11291 SW 142nd Ave. Miami, FL 33186. The bilingual ceremony will be celebrated at the outside altar at 3 p.m. For more information contact: 305-386-4121. 
  • St. Pius X Church, 2511 N. Ocean Blvd. (A1A), Fort Lauderdale, 33305. The blessing will be in English, at 2 p.m. in the Parish Courtyard. For more information please contact 954-564-1763.
  • St. Joseph Church, 8670 Byron Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33141. The bilingual blessing of the animals will take place at 12:15 p.m., by the south side entrance to the church. For more information visit www.stjosephmiamibeach.com or call 305-866-6567.
