Belen Jesuit Prep's water polo team poses with their 2015 state championship plaque and medals.
MIAMI | Belen Jesuit's varsity water polo team brought home a state championship by defeating St. Thomas Aquinas by the score of 14-9 on April 18.
Senior Ryan Gusso led all scorers with 6 goals, Santiago Nunez, Pablo Kurzan and Alexander Alepuz each had two goals.
"Our entire team played outstanding," said Carlos Barquin, athletic director. "The defense was superb!"
This championship marks the ninth consecutive school year in which at least one of the Belen sports teams wins a state championship.
