Belen clinches Catholic basketball championship

The 2014 Basketball Catholic State Champions Belen Jesuit Wolverines pose with their winning championship belt at the conclusion of the tournament held in St. Augustine, FL the weekend of December 19.

MIAMI | The Belen Jesuit varsity basketball team captured the championship at the Catholic State Tournament held in St. Augustine the weekend of Dec. 19.

The Wolverines defeated St. Joseph's Academy 62 to 54.

The team is led by head coach Jose Roca. Team members are: Alejandro Barnola, 10th grade, Gabriel Cabrera,11th grade, Joseph Cirera, 12th grade, Alfredo Consuegra, 11th grade, Eduardo Cruz, 12th grade, Luis Mejer,11th grade, Joseph Ordonez, 12th grade, Carlos Perez-Heydrich, 12th grade, Daniel Puente, 11th grade, Daniel Romeu,11th grade, David Salazar, 11th grade, and Christian Silva, 10th grade. 

Lead scorers for the Wolverines included Eduardo Cruz, 13 points, Alfredo Consuegra, 16 points, and Daniel Homeu, 12 points.

That contest was preceded by Miami's Lourdes Academy defeating Orlando's Bishop Moore 64-52 to win the state girls title.
