Miami…(Feb. 8, 2016) Archbishop Thomas Wenski will be celebrating Mass on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School on the occasion of Ash Wednesday.
Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School is located at 5451 South Flamingo Road, Southwest Ranches, FL. The Mass will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and both the community and media are invited to attend.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40-day Lenten season, a time of penance and preparation for the commemoration of the passion and death of Jesus Christ and his ultimate resurrection on Easter Sunday. Lent concludes with the celebration of the Mass of the Last Supper on Holy Thursday - the first day of the Easter Triduum - followed by Good Friday services and the celebration of the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday.
Ash Wednesday is a day of abstinence from meat for Catholics over the age of 14. It is also a day of fasting — one full meal and two small meals, with nothing eaten between meals — for adults ages 18-59.
At St. Martha Church, the Mass for Ash Wednesday will be celebrated at 11:45 a.m. by Fr. Mathew Thundathill.
