8 Archbishop McCarthy students named National Merit Semifinalists

8 More named Commended and 13 named Hispanic Scholars

SOUTHWEST RANCHES | Eight Archbishop Edward McCarthy High seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program, based on their scores in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

They are among 16,000 academically talented high school seniors who now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million. Scholarship recipients will be announced in the spring.

In addition to the eight semifinalists, eight more McCarthy High students were named Commended Scholars, and 13 were named National Hispanic Scholars, among them 10 of the Semifinalists and commended Scholars.

The Semifinalists are: Savannah Bergeron, Benjamin Brock, Franchesca Linares, Gabriel Peiretti, Anthony Wells, Allison Wilbur, Rachel Wisolmerski and Adrianna Zambrano.

The Commended Scholars are: Nicholas Bernal, Kyle Fuxa, Erick Garcia, Ubaldo Lopez, Samantha Morin, Vincent Natiello, Emily Palacios and Kyle Willenborg.

Among the National Hispanic Scholars are Nicholas, Kyle, Erick, Franchesca, Ubaldo, Samantha, Vincent, Emily, Gabriel and Adrianna; along with Kenneth Eubanks, Victoria Lara-Aguilar, and Natalia Rodriguez.
