July 11, 2018 MEDIA ALERT
Miami… (July 11, 2018) Catholic Legal Services appeals for pro bono attorneys to provide humane and just treatment for the most innocent.
“Separations of immigrant families occur every day in our neighborhoods, in our parishes, throughout our community. Currently, 5000 children have pending deportation cases in the Miami Immigration Court—5000 children facing a complex court hearing without an attorney, without parents or other responsible adults at their side,” said Randolph McGrorty, Catholic Legal Services chief executive officer. “I appeal to the immigration attorneys in South Florida to come forward to assist pro bono in defending these children in court; the youngest child without legal representation is four years old. Please!”
Catholic Legal Services is working closely with its partners at Americans for Immigrant Justice, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, others in the legal community, immigrant advocates and faith community to create an effective South Florida response to this crisis.
