MIAMI | Hurricane Irma is just one of the disasters -- along with Hurricane Maria and the recent earthquake in Mexico -- for which the Archdiocese of Miami is collecting relief funds.
Here’s an update from Catholic Relief Services on how those funds have been used so far:
- Caritas Cuba finished distribution of hygiene kits for 307 families in Havana. In addition, 2,720 families in Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila, and Santa Clara received food, water, and hygiene kits.
- Caritas in the Dominican Republic continues its program to donate vouchers and hygiene kits for 1,750 beneficiaries through training volunteers and finalizing agreements with vendors.
- Caritas Antilles has sent 17 Youth Environmental Action Committee volunteers to Dominica to distribute food, medicines, sleeping pads, tents and reverse osmosis water purifiers in affected communities.
- In Dominica, CRS is prepositioning water storage containers, household water filters and household water storage containers once assessments and targeting have been narrowed down.
- CRS has also been notified that it will receive at least $660,000 under the Google campaign that highlighted CRS’ response.
Donations are still being accepted at ccadm.org and https://give.adomdevelopment.org/irma. One hundred percent of your donations will be used for disaster relief efforts.
