Teaching the community how to respond to hate crimes

Coral Springs Catholic Church joins forces with other Religious Leaders in this city-wide initiative

Miamiā€¦(April 20, 2017) On Monday, April 24 the Clergy Coalition of Coral Springs/Parkland will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church to introduce a new initiative to teach residents of Coral Springs to recognize and effectively respond to “hate acts” and/or “hate crimes”. 

The Clergy Coalition, which is an interfaith professional federation of the spiritual leaders of the Coral Springs houses of worship, is unveiling its new project that aims to help residents of Coral Springs and Parkland rapidly identify and correctly respond to any episode of hate in the area. 

A “hate act” is defined as any act in which a perpetrator selects a victim because of perceived race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability or sexual orientation. 

Attending the press conference will be Congressman Ted Deutch, U.S. House of Representatives for Florida’s 22nd congressional district; Mayor Christine Hunschofsky, Mayor of Parkland, FL; Commissioner Lou Cimaglia, Commissioner of Coral Springs Seat 4; Colonel Tom Harrington, Broward Sheriff’s Office; Monsignor Michael A. Souckar, Pastor of St. Andrew Catholic Church; Rabbi Bradd Boxman, Congregation Kol Tikvah; Rev. Randal Cutter, New Dawn Community Church, and other public officials and religious leaders.
