Catholics, Lutherans join in labyrinth project

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Roman Catholic Church are getting together in 2017 to mark 500 years since the Protestant Reformation. The goal is to spend the year working together in service and learning.

This commemoration will kick off in Miami-Dade County on Sunday, Feb. 26, at noon, with a groundbreaking ceremony for a prayer labyrinth to be built on the grounds of MorningStar Renewal Center, 7275 S.W. 124 St., Pinecrest. The project is called "Digging Deeper than Doctrine," as people of different faith traditions come together to create a common space for reflection.

A prayer labyrinth is a circuitous walkway that has been used since ancient times for meditation and prayer. Once completed, the labyrinth will be open to the public and can be used by all faith traditions. For more information on how to get involved, call MorningStar at 305-238-4367 or email [email protected].

40 Days for Life begins March 1

Archdiocesan parishes and groups are once again being asked to take part in 40 Days for Life, a prayerful, Lent-long witness against abortion. The vigil runs from Ash Wednesday, March 1, at 8 a.m. and continues daily, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., until Sunday, April 9. Vigils will take place outside abortion facilities in Miami, Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale. Parishioners are asked to enlist their fellow parishioners, ministries and prayer groups to take a turn praying at a particular date and time. Sign up and find out more at www.40daysforlife.com or contact the archdiocesan Respect Life Office, [email protected].
